Dr. Quinones, or better known as Dr. Q, serves as the Chairman of the Department of Neurologic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic and is recognized with the distinction of the William J. and Charles H. Mayo Endowed Professorship. Dr. Q received his medical degree from Harvard University Medical School and completed his residency in neurosurgery and his postdoctoral fellowship in developmental and stem cell biology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Q has published over 400 peer reviewed manuscripts, 7 books on brain cancer that has been translated into other languages, has over 25 patents, leads 5 National Institutes of Health funded projects and has trained over 300 clinical and research fellows. He has received numerous awards and honors, including many honorary degrees, being named as one of the 100 most influential Hispanics, Gary Lichtenstein Humanitarian Award, Neurosurgeon of the Year award and was named by Forbes Magazine as one of Mexico’s most brilliant minds in the world. Dr. Q was part of the 2009 Peabody Award winning ABC TV Series "Hopkins" and also the BBC/Netflix BAFTA and 2021 EMMY award winning show "The Surgeons Cut." In addition, he has published an autobiography, “Becoming Dr. Q,” about his journey from migrant farm worker to neurosurgeon; currently Disney and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment productions are working on featuring his inspirational life story in a movie.
